چکیده

This paper deals with the problem of coloring a two-dimensional segmentation result in such a way that each segment has a different color with the constraint that adjacent segments have sufficiently distinct colors to be easily distinguishable by a human viewer. Our solution for this problem is based on a balanced coloring of the neighborhood graph built from the area Voronoi diagram. The balanced coloring with only a limited number of colors is subsequently modified to assign each segment a unique color. For picking the initial palette of evenly distributed colors, we propose a method that is based on the physical analogy of energy minimization in a Wigner crystal. To make the energy formula applicable to arbitrary color spaces and distance measures, we give generalized definitions for the center and radius of a color space with an arbitrary distance metric. The individual steps of our coloring algorithm have been evaluated on the PRIMA dataset.

Multiband segmentation using morphological clustering and fusion $application to color image segmentation

In this paper we propose a novel approach for color image segmentation. Our approach is based on segmentation of subsets of bands using mathematical morphology followed by the fusion of the resulting segmentation ”channels”. For color images the band subsets are chosen as RG, RB and GB pairs, whose 2D histograms are processed as projections of a 3D histogram. The segmentations in 2D color space...

Explorative Analysis of 2D Color Maps

Color is one of the most important visual variables in information visualization. In many cases, two-dimensional information can be color-coded based on a 2D color map. A variety of color maps as well as a number of quality criteria for the use of color have been presented. The choice of the best color map depends on the analytical task users intend to perform and the design space in choosing a...

Visualizing the Uncertainty of Graph-based 2D Segmentation with Min-path Stability

This paper presents a novel approach to visualize the uncertainty in graph-based segmentations of scalar data. Segmentation of 2D scalar data has wide application in a variety of scientific and medical domains. Typically, a segmentation is presented as a single unambiguous boundary although the solution is often uncertain due to noise or blur in the underlying data as well as imprecision in use...

Extension of 2D segmentation methods into 3D by means of Coons-patch interpolation

In medical imaging, segmentation is an important step for many visualization tasks and image-guided procedures. Except for very rare cases, automatic segmentation methods cannot guarantee to provide the correct segmentation. Therefore, for clinical usage, physicians insist on full control over the segmentation result, i.e., to verify and interactively correct the segmentation (if necessary). Di...

Extracting and Visualizing Uncertainties in Segmentations from 3D Medical Data

Assessing surfaces of segmentations extracted from 3D image data for medical purposes requires dedicated extraction and visualization methods. In particular, when assessing follow-up cases, the exact volume and confidence level of the segmentation surface is crucial for medical decision-making. This paper introduces a new processing chain comprising a series of carefully selected and well-match...
